
Max Gerl is a bassist/composer/producer from Dallas, Texas. He graduated with honors from Berklee College of Music in 2017, and has since gone on to perform internationally at the Monterey Jazz Festival, North Sea Jazz Festival, Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club, etc. He has performed or recorded with Grammy winner and jazz legend Arturo Sandoval, James Francies, Veronica Swift, Cyrille Aimee, Jordan Rakei, Talib Kweli, Maurice "Mobetta" Brown, Blaque Dynamite, Makaya McCraven, Tia Fuller, Sasha Berliner, Bernard Wright, Chris Cheek, Beka Gochiashvili, Stanley Clarke, and Cameron Graves. He released his debut album as a leader, “Tbilisi”, in December, 2019.
In addition to performing and teaching privately as one of the first call bassists in Los Angeles, Gerl maintains a busy schedule writing and recording his own music. Gerl spent much of 2021 working with Dallas – based Eastwood Music Group producing “Wasafiri”, a jazz – fusion album of predominantly Gerl’s compositions. The album pays tribute to the fusion legends of the early to mid 70’s, such as The Headhunters, Weather Report, etc. He is looking forward to releasing his upcoming work on New York - based JMI Recordings, namely a self - titled solo bass album, due out July 28th, 2023.
